Governor Kelly Announces Award

Governor Kelly Announces Award of Cost-Share Grant To The City of Hesston.
Hesston Bicycle & Pedestrian Path plan
The City of Hesston was awarded a grant for the construction of the “East-West Connection” project.
This grant is a financial construction award from the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Spring 2024 Cost Share Program. The total project cost is $500,000 with the state awarding $350,000. The city has agreed to fund the $150,000 balance, plus any cost over-runs. This money will help finance the construction of a pedestrian / bike pathway connecting residents living east of the Interstate near Hoover Road with the city. This pathway will enhance pedestrian and bike travel from the west to the east on a path that begins near the clubhouse on the golf course, traveling parallel to Emma Creek, over a bridge and under the interstate, then turning east following an easement. The pathway will end at North Hoover Road, north of Dan’s Cycle. The pathway is intended to provide safer travel to and from community amenities, schools, parks and recreation, and retail offerings. No start date for the project has been established. More will be reported here as the project develops.
